The VLFM Programme is being implemented under the aegis of the National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council (NMCC), Government of India. NMCC has created an Apex Committee that monitors and guides the implementation of the programme. The Apex Committee is chaired by the Chairman, NMCC and has representatives from Academia and Industry. Prof. Shoji Shiba has been invited as a Chief Advisor to this Committee.
Japan International Co operation Agency (JICA) have provided the following:
Full support for making Professor Shoji Shiba available to India for three years at their cost of which the first year was completed in March 2008. JICA dispatched Prof. Shiba to India 11 times between 2006 and 2008 for about 200 days. These visits were for development and delivery of the VLFM Programme.
In addition, 6 Japanese experts of highest level including those conferred Merit of Culture in Japan, CTO of Toshiba, Sony and Canon etc, have been dispatched by JICA for a total about 50 person days.
To ensure the implementation of the programme and signing MoU two of JICA`s officers have visited India twice in the last one year.
One Japanese coordinator has been appointed and dispatched to India. Appointed in November 2007, this Coordinator will stay in India until the completion of the VLFM Program.
Two TV conference systems have been installed and two Tablet PCs have been contributed to the Programme by JICA.
Editing and Publication cost of the lecture notes and books have been covered by JICA and further publications are planned.
Ten Indian Resource Persons of Opportunity A, 15 for Opportunity B and 10 for Opportunity D were invited to Japan at the cost of JICA who bore the expenses of these Resource Persons and spent about 300 man-days of effort in organizing and delivering the training.
46 participants of Opportunity A and 30 participants of Opportunity B were invited to Japan for a study tour on a cost sharing basis. This training included visits to leading Japanese manufacturing companies and interactions with the Japanese business community.
